Global Scholars Fellowship Program

GSFP is a combination of our immersion trips, curriculum, and research internships, and is fully virtual!

Become part of a unique community of people interested in learning about community development and different cultures! Launched in 2020, GSFP has shown us that there is incredible potential for learning, cross-cultural conversations, and collaborative research to be done by students and young professionals from all different corners of the globe, just a click away. GSFP is a two-week intensive academic program for students (undergraduate and graduate) and professionals to engage in classroom sessions and research.

Apply now to our Winter 2024 cohort, from January 8th to January 19th. Our course is five days a week, from 9am to 11am MST. For more information, please view our curriculum and syllabus. The program is highly interactive and designed for those who want to build their international experience as well as bolster their understanding of community development work.

GOING VIRTUAL

We will be the first to tell you that you cannot fully recreate a cross-cultural travel experience virtually. However, we’ve learned that you can get pretty close… GSFP is something uniquely accessible and engaging for students and professionals to learn about best practices in community development!

 So far, 100+ students and professionals from around the world have graduated from GSFP and shown increases in several professional capacities! These fellows came to the table to Listen, Think, and Act with GLI and numerous partner organizations to learn about and discuss what doing good community development looks like in the real world.

Make sure you are some place quiet and comfortable. If a laptop is accessible to you, try to use that over a phone or tablet. If it is comfortable to do so, have your video on.

When you join, please mute yourself by tapping the mic button in the bottom corner. If possible, try to use headphones or earbuds to enhance sound quality.

Send questions within the “Chat” box; the moderator will ask them at an appropriate time. If you have to leave early, have technical difficulties, or have a non-speaker related question during the presentation, email GSFP or text your TA.

There will be a debrief email sent after the presentation, so if you have any relevant documents that you would like to share, please email them to GSFP within a few minutes of the session ending.

What’s included with GSFP?

  1. Daily lecture series and discussions with key community development leaders from US & East Africa;

  2. Collaborative research projects that will include a focus on education, public health, agriculture, conservation, and other fields;

  3. Remote mentoring and advisory support throughout;

  4. Participation with a Uganda/US led team to advance academic goals and research efforts.

How much does GSFP cost?

The program fee is $350, which includes all lectures, curriculum, mentoring, & any additional support to students related to the program. If you are seeking additional funding from the GLI or an outside source, please provide details in your application. Our organization has some limited funds we allocate for high-needs students, and we try to advise all fellows in the fund-seeking process pre-program so that cost is not a barrier to entry for GSFP!

Who can apply to GSFP?

Any university students (undergraduate or graduate), or professionals that want to learn more about community development and are eager to engage in collaborative dialogues and research.
